Gucci Receives Backlash for ‘Blackface’ Sweater
If Gucci was trying to pay homage to Black History Month, this wasn’t the way to do it.
The luxury brand removed the $890 wool sweater from stores and the website and issued an apology, saying “We consider diversity to be a fundamental value to be fully upheld, respected, and at the forefront of every decision we make”.
Gucci isn’t the first to make this so-called mistake. Other brands, such as H&M and Prada, have been criticized for being culturally unaware. They say third time’s a charm, so designers...learn the lesson and don’t make the same mistake again!
