The Oscars Are Coming!
The nominations for the 90th Oscar Awards were
released Tuesday morning with The Shape of Water leading the pack with 13 noms.
Tiffany Haddish and Andy Serkis made the announcement
at 8:22 a.m. ET, live from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in LA.
Haddish brought her comedic chops to the
sometimes mundane show, struggling with the names of nominees and offering fun
batter about how movie names can be scary for a girl from an urban area (like
her).
Some chat became fact as horror/comedy Get Out was elevated to the most coveted
list for Best Picture, making it the first time a horror film has been
recognized in the category since Silence
of the Lambs in 1992.
R&B and hip hop legend Mary J. Blige
received some real love from The Academy in the category of Best Actress in a
Supporting Role and Best Original Song in Mudbound. Director Rachel Morrison has become the first woman ever to be nominated in the Best Cinematography category.
The Shape of Water leads Oscar nominees with a whopping 13 nods,
including Best Picture, followed by Dunkirk
with nine nominations and seven for Three
Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
The Nominees for Best Picture:
Call Me by Your Name
Darkest Hour
Dunkirk
Get Out
Lady Bird
Phantom Thread
