Sports Illustrated Celebrates the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team
Sports Illustrated is celebrating
the U.S. Women’s National Soccer team by devoting a cover to each individual
player, including Coach Jill Ellis. These 23 women have made us proud by
becoming the first team ever to win three World Cups! SI had to do something
special and never before seen. The highly anticipated issue is now available on
newsstands.
This is the first cover of its kind
by the magazine. Each cover will highlight every member of the team, and what
they brought to the table during their 2015 World Cup journey. One cover that
stands out is the one that showcases Midfielder Carli Lloyd. She scored a jaw
dropping midfield goal against Japan in the finals, becoming a World Cup hero.
Sports Illustrated also blessed us with exclusive behind the scenes footage of
the magazine shoot. In the video, Alex Morgan states, “I want girl’s dreams to
be alive. I want them to know that with hard work, with confidence, with
sacrifices you can be in this position too!” Spoken like a true champion.
It is great to see
Sports Illustrated creating something fresh and new for the U.S. Women’s Soccer
team. The total of 25 covers show that SI recognizes the team’s tenacity,
individuality, and depth. It doesn’t get
any better than this historic moment, and these women are basking in all of
their glory! The championship team is also set to make appearances at the 2015
ESPY Awards, nominated for Best Team, and the Nickelodeon Sports Awards.
